Hey guys, i've been out of the market lately and realized that some good new portable sources are out.

I have a 1st gen FIIO x5 and loved it, but wanted to get the 2nd gen. However, I was hoping I could get something with similar quality but with more capacity. What is the best audio player out there that can play flac, with good capacity (more than 256GB)

The Astell&Kern AK240 and AK380 have 256GB internal storage, with a slot for a secondary microSD card. So, with a 200GB microSD, that brings you up to 456GB.

Be warned... everything mentioned is expensive. If capacity is your prime concern, it's much cheaper to simply put two 200GB microSD cards in your FiiO X5. You get 400GB for a fraction of the cost.

The AK are definitely too pricey. Problem is (for the fiio) is that it takes 128GB at most per slot

That's just nonsense. Plenty of users have their X5 running 200GB cards.

The 128GB limit is the official tested limit. There were no 200GB cards out when the X5 was made. Since then, it's been proven to work just fine.

There are no genuine microSD cards at the 256GB capacity. They come at the off integer of 200GB.

If you see 256GB cards, you are probably looking at full-size SD cards. And if you are indeed looking at a microSD card, it is likely a fake. I don't know of anyone making them at that size.

If you are looking for something better quality than the X5 but costing less than the AK, check out the ibasso dx80.  I would suggest the AK models if you can swing the price. YMMV.

Damn, looks beautiful. So the ibasso can take two 200GB SDs right?  I'm either looking to get the Fiio X5 gen 2 or ibasso dx80 at this point. I loved my 1st gen X5, but I want to get an upgrade just for the sake of upgrading it. Plus, the Fiio X5 1st gen interface is awkward as hell. Navigating my library is such a hassle.

The Cayin N5 has two card slots, and has a much nicer interface than the X5 Classic. It's still based on a physical scroll-wheel, but a much nicer one that is perfectly accurate.

Take a read of the multiple DX80 threads on here.  Yes, you could swap in two 200gb cards - I have a 200gb and a 128gb in mine.
