OK, the amp is done (less the rings) and i'm listening to
it right now. The following pictures are from my brand new
14 megapixel camera. The first 3 were hand held, Just
could not get decent pictures for the last 2 without a
tripod. WARNING: huge pictures (both in size and pixel count)

Wow...those are the biggest pictures I've ever seen online. High-speech internet connections rock...I'll never go back to dial-up.

Ok Kevin ,just one question before i even consider building this beast
wink.gif

I use your triode clas A amp published in the headzie library for electrosats and to be honest it sounds pretty damn good.

I recently have contemplated adding a JFET front end just for comparison but never really got around to it not wanting to have the amp down while i screwed around with it

So , just how much better is this amp ?

Is it day and night or is it more of just squeezing out that last bit of resolution

and finally , if you could

how would you describe the sound character of the amp in general terms

analytic ? muysical ?

over used terms i know but if you were going to describe it to someone that knew nothing of amps how would you characterise it /

tall order i know

thanks ,

Rick

BTW-already got the pics yesterday over at AVS

I'm interested in the camera. Forget the amp

Which one did you get? Did it cost more than the amp?

Excuse me, Mr. Gilmore, no offense, but those images are way to big. Unless you think we are going to have prints made.

I mean, yes, you did warn us, but it's ridiculously large. I mean, 1280x1024 is as big as any image should be on the net IMO.

Thanks though for the pictures, looks like a great piece of work as usual!!

I beg to differ.

I have a 3 panel display here at work, and those images look absolutely incredible. I finally dont have to settle for a streteched image for my desktop

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/profe....14.14.8&lc=en

The amp was about $1400 in parts.

The camera was

camera $4495.95
extra battery $94.95
3 year extended warranty on camera $139.95
nikon 17-35 f/2.8 ed if af s $1499.95
nikon 28-70 f/2.8 ed if af s $1429.95
lexar 2gb flash $589.95

still need to get a decent flash.

My nikon F1 is 35 years old.
My cannon is 20 years old.

NO MORE FILM!

14MP? or 13.5MP

4500 x 3000 = 13500000 = 13.5MP

In jpeg mode its 13.5MP. In raw mode its 14.3MP
You DON'T want me publishing the raw's. They are
41 megabytes each.
4536 x 3024 x 12 bits per color
The extended range is 14 bits per color.

Yes it is very good.

So , just how much better is this amp ?

quite a bit better especially at the low end. Also much
wider frequency response. Mainly due to the significant
extra amount of power consumed and the grounded
grid output section.

New version of the triode amp built with 829B's is next.
Only 1 capacitor in the signal path. Very easy to build.
Not sure how its going to sound.

Thats the low res pictures with the old crappy camera!

How much does each box weigh? Dimensions? Price?!

amplifier is 2937.8 grams 12 x 9 x 3 inches
power supply is 4848.4 grams 12 x 9 x 3 inches
cable is 388 grams

Price: you don't want to know!

really never felt much of a need to upgrade until recently when the old "upgradeitus" bug hit me again , happens every few years or so and at this point everything but my headphones , tube tuner and turntable are going .
Everything else is slated for exocution

hmmm...any target date on that one ?

Just wondering if maybe i should just wait for this version as a mod instead of having to do all the metalwork a new project involves

The wiring is the easy part
biggrin.gif

the blue hawaii is an interesting project but not one to be taken on lightly . Once begun it is all or nothing

thank You for the answers Kevin
