Hey all!

If your phono stage only has MM inputs, can you plug a high output MC cartridge and have the same result as a MM cartridge?

I suspect this depends cartridge to cartridge and phono stage to phono stage, but my Benz Glider H2 works fine with the MM phono stage in my amp.

The 540p has 39 dB gain, which should be adequate for the Denon DL-110 or 160.

I was using a Denon DL160 with my receiver's phono inputs, and later with a CIA VPP1 (40 db gain?) with no problems.

The purpose of the high output MC design is so that you can drive them with a MM phono preamp. Any SS phono preamp with a fairly standard 40 db gain will have no problem lighting up any of them. Its only when you use the weakling preamps below about 35 db gain that issues may occur.
