Hey, i was wondering what gain setting should i be using on my new E12 with a pair of K702?

The headphones can get loud enough on 0+ db settings easyily.  However, should i switch the setting up to +16db and turn down the volume?

I was wondering if this is just a volume thing, or does this gain setting affect SQ as well? If so, which is the best for SQ?

It may come down to which sounds better to you.

Well, from just a little bit of listening. (Not broken in E12, it's brand new)

They sound pretty similar besides the volume. I just turn down the knob to similar levels of volume.

Does that gain acutlly affect anything other than volume?

Ok thanks for the responses. I heard the high gain or 16+ DB will cause some hissing. But when i tried it, that was not the case. The E12 improves the cleaness and overall SQ of the K702 by a bit.

I have the E12 and a pair of Q701.
I just leave the gain on low.
It's a nice amp for the Q701! :D

i only set the gain to 16 dB when I use my 600 Ohm DT880 'phones.

Nice to see somehow else pairing a very very similar AKG cans with the E12! Great minds think alike hehe.

I'm waiting for my  L9 LOD and Schiit Modi to come in at the moment, and i'm super excited that they'll improve the SQ of my K702 even more!

How's your expereince with the E12 + Q701 btw?

No complaints.
The E12 never runs out of power and sounds great for the money!
Nice and clean, bass is tight and punchy.
I'm a big fan of my Q701s, I'll probably sell the DT880, but I'll keep the Q701. For me they are just a more enjoyable headphone.

Yep, i've very similar thoughts though i'm very very new to the audiophile world.

I found the K702 to be much cleaner than my previous phones, the M50. Also, i even thought the K702's bass was much better. (Thought they were known for bad bass)

I mainly listen to classical, but sometimes rap and vocals too.

The bass in the Q701 sounds just fine to my ears!
You must be a treblehead!:D
The K70x and Q701 are not known for being a bassheads headphone of choice!
