HIFIMAN HE1000 Unveiled

And what about Arya unveiled vs HeU @MartussDer ? If I play a bit with the HeU to match the Arya FR, it seems that the Arya is really less bright, seems more suitable for pop songs than the HeU (but you can EQ the He for songs easily)
I've had little time trying them, but the he1000 is crazy.

I can briefly tell you that if you don't amplify it properly, its layering is at the level of a mid-fi headphone like he1000 stealth, empyrean, etc. But once amplified to the max like in a holo bliss kte, the layering and macro detail is on par with susvara and stax sr009 and lcd5. The macro detail is above caldera and on par with this one in layering.
Compared to arya unveiled, this one, even if amplified further, does not sound like he1000 unve. Arya unv has the layering level of a mid-fi. The next league in that aspect is for susvara and he1000 unveiled.
Now ayra unveiled, like he1000 unveyled and susvara share the ability of top-level "imaging". Each instrument is positioned with precision and sufficient body within the scene. When I compared it to my grey HD800, I noticed that the HD800's layering is the same as the Arya Unveiled and they are below the others in that aspect, but the image and the ability to position things as if it were a ping pong game of the Arya is of a higher level than the HD800. On the other hand, it shares the same timbre as the new HiFiman Unveiled line. A unique timbre of the He1000 Unveiled and the Arya Unveiled, it is like a kind of combination between the "plastic" timbre of the Mr. Speaker Aeon Flow closed and the ZMF Caldera. But it does not resemble the timbre of the old HiFiman at all.
I honestly skip the Arya, I don't like that mid fi level anymore, I'm already used to superior things. If I keep the HD800 it is out of love and because it has other unique things in its sound, but if not, I would also leave it. Arya is definitely like an unveiled he1000 WITHOUT steroids.

The highs don't hurt me at all in either of them, but in large part, it's because Bliss and Hugo TT2 certainly round out this aspect or control them. I would have to try my rme adi2 but I have it saved. I will try to test it in the following days in that DAC amp and I will tell you again about the highs. But I can tell you that they don't hurt me at all and that's even though I listen to everything, from Mexican rancheras, to porno corridos, to classical music from the baroque to flamenco and Wagner. Greetings

Which EQ settings you have for HE1000 unveiled when you drive him with a neutral solid state Amp.

No EQ settings with a neutral solid-state amp since I like the sound signature of the HE1000 Unveiled as it is.

The only exception would be more sub-bass from 0-40 Hz, so maybe +3dB in this frequency range.

Hello guys.
I have listened to the HeU a lot but I was not really pleased with some (majority of) songs, even with native smoother trebles. The thing is that the HeU is tuned for musics and instruments first, and not all type of songs (in my opinion). The 6khz-10khz zone brings the best of instruments but ruins the songs (sibilance) in 70% of the ones I listen to. My first comments here were really postive about songs but I went first on very well recorded songs I have. Default is better than with the SE but more investigations brang some issues.
So I dug hard into curves, graphs, measures here and there to really get what is going on. At first approach, matching the harmann curve was the goal but was not pleasing anyway. So I have been trying stuff here and there. I even changed the DAC, the amp, but it has nothing to do with that at the end. I have been thinking for a long time that the headphones are the first thing to consider if you dont like the sound and after having change things and loose money, I confirm. The dacs I have bought do their job : reproducing the sound you send to them, period. On amp I can say that a good amp will bring the best from the headphones (the amp of my DAP, even if powerful enough on paper, is producing a rather flat sound) but doesn't really change the FR (here again, maybe a 50$ amp can change that, but nowadays they do a correct job about FR).

Anyway, I finally found the perfect tool to solve my issues. The standard Harmann curve is too simple to get what is going on. The curves shown at headphones.com are better. I finally found someone including them in Squiglink. And, more, it allows you to dl a song, play it and listen to what your EQ is doing live. Just wonderful.
I found the best all-rounder setup with this tool and it is clearly not the default harman curve helping here. For some songs it is not needed but for majority of my songs it is very usefull and I finally enjoy what I hear, without sibilance (except on weird tunings). Of course, you loose a bit of air but voices and instruments are different stuff. You can't get the best of both worlds for songs (once again, in my experience).

I dont get anything on how studios mix their productions, it is crazy. Even with a same album voices are not mixed the same way. The chance I have is I can send files to the Vio using PowerAmp on the M23. You can apply one setup per song (or for all files in a directory), and it is just perfect. For instrumental music, the HeU is perfect as it is, I don't apply anything. Air, holography, excellent. For 10% of my songs I dont apply anything, maybe 20% have a soft correction and all others use the one I will put below. Hope it can help some poeple. I just read a post on the He1000 from someone using eq, trying hard to find THE setup. I tried too, with standard curve, and could not. First because too different mixings , and second because it is not precise enough. Treble region is very special (to my ears at least) and deserve a better comprehension. Once again, tastes are an important factor but this tool helped me a lot because of the curves (you can target the middle between the limits) and the ability to play songs and test live.

Show me a manufacturer who produces a headphone that sounds good for "all types of songs" and without any tweaking, and I show you one who's going to dominate the world for years. Honesty. I think your expectations are outside of reality.

No headphone is perfect for everyone because everyone hears differently. And why many have more than one headphone, and why the market is flooded. I have both the Hifiman HE1000-SE, and the Sennheiser HD800-S, and neither are masters of all I listen to.

Good luck.

I dont need luck 😉, because I stopped digging for these « perfect » headphones. I have 3 tunings and it will be enough. I prefer this instead of having 2, 3 or 5 headphones. I have thought perfect headphones could exist but I was wrong and probably naive . PowerAmp is really the perfect tool in the perspective of EQing one pair of headphones for different genres (plus the work done in studios varying from song to song)

I'm just happy you've come to realize no perfect headphone exists for all 😉

Good luck.

No headphone is perfect indeed, but I found one for me that's getting damn close ;)
So do I in both my Senns HD800 S, and HEKse... and I need no EQ tweaks :smirk:

You have used iis interface to connect Denafrips Hermes 12th and Pontus 15th. It is said that the internal clock of harmes12 is better than that of p15
Yeah, I heard the same (before the 15th's release), but not sure now with the 15th, but perhaps. Either way both have very good internal clocks.

Anyway, also why I say you can't judge a headphone based solely on a single piece of gear or tech. A headphone might sound horrendous on certain Delta-Sigma DACs, but sound great on a R2R DAC or tube amp. Gear matters.

My Senns sound nice on my Delta-Sigma Teac 701 CD Player with headamp, but lack weight and depth compared to being played through my Denafrips headphone amp feed by the Pontus. The Senns HD800 S sound a little thin and weightless on the Teac, but full bodied and weighty on the Denafrips Artemis headphone amp.

Were I stuck with the Teac, I would look for a more full-bodied headphone. With the Denafrips, the HD800 S are much more enjoyable and why I love them there.
