If it looks like a duck, and its name sounds like duck, then it must be a ploy to cash in on the fame of discontinued headphones from another company.

No aknowledgement of the "inspiration" anywhere in the product description either, for legal reasons I assume...

I personally have no issue with anyone who takes inspiration from, or copy a discontinued work but add their own spins or at least try to improve upon them.

This of course doesn't apply to replicas and fakes but in this case, Hifiman is not marketing them as the exact same headphones as from the other company so I'm cool with it.

I see alot of this homages vs replicas in watches rather than audio, and I'm personally all for homages. I personally prefer homages of discontinued watches than those still in production but that's just me. I have the Steinhart homage of the Rolex milspec and the MWW homage of the Seiko 62MAS and they are among 2 of my most favorite watches in my collection.

YMMV

I would argue that they are misleading and borderline replica; they are implying a relation to the R10 with the name, when it appears they just copied the housing.

A lot of people will believe these are a modern take on the R10, when they are unrelated headphones with plagiarized cups.
