I use scarcely my pair of HE 1000 V.2. When not in use, it's boxed.
Nevertheless, the ear pads are peeling and falling apart.
Lousy quality ear-ads for a rather expensive pair.

I also have Ultrasone 10 since 4 years : sheep skin ear-ads are just perfect.

Hifiman is really subpar here compared to German engineering.

If it's faux leather then it will peel regardless of usage.
It's the material, basically any "plastic" material will fall apart in 2 years.

I think the point to be made here is how is people ok with HIFIMAN using fake leather on their headphones that cost 3k or even 7k.
Of course. I have a pair of Ultrasone 10 since 2015, using it almost every week since then. Sheep skin ear pads are perfect still.
On my Hifiman scarcely used (once a month since 2018), plastic ear pads a completely flaking, dismantling themselves.

Not normal at this price point. I also have a pair of TH900 with organic leather ear pads which are deteriorating after 4 years of regular use. I'll probably have a skilled artisan sew thin skin around the Hifiman original.

I'm not saying it's normal or abnormal.
I'm just explaining if the material is faux leather, then it will fall apart regardless of the usage.
The question is not to comment about faux leather deteriorating being normal or abnormal. The question is faux leather pads on expensive cans
is just cheap and poor taste. Again, at this price point, Ultrasone (stellar sounding headphones too) offer real high quality leather that after 5 years
of usage didn't deteriorate a bit (albeit darkening, which is normal for leather). So Hifiman offering here is really lacking.
