HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

I've listened to the Arya for at least 150 hours now, while I do love them, there's 2 aspects which I find lacking.

1. Bass shake/slam/hit is underwhelming. They're there, but I wished it'd rumble my entire head, instead of feeling like minor pushes into the eardrum.

2. Soundstage is underwhelming. It feels like it reaches out to roughly 30 cm radius max. While much better than my RE600 IEM which feels like roughly 5 cm, it wasn't the orchestra feeling I was lead to believe.

I had hoped it was because it wasn't burnt-in enough, or my brain not adjusted enough, but these 2 aspect remains. I've tried playing around with EQ a bit, it seemed to just make the soundstage even narrower, while making bass louder without increasing the shake. FYI, I'm using Audinist HUD-MX2 with non-balanced cable.

Thank you. Link is "broken"

Thanks,! Fixed it Arya's are better than many Arya owners realize...

what do you think is better to buy a better usb cable or to buy an iFi Audio iPurifier3

iDefender/iSilencer are situational products best used to combat specific issues (ground loops on USB, excess noise), whereas iPurifier3 is a legit USB reclocker/regenerator just as our nano/micro iUSB3.0, but smaller and the most affordable of this group.

Thank you for sharing your Arya impressions.
My conclusions regarding Arya are very similar to yours in particular EQ potential to collapse soundstage. The only exception to your very helpful review is amplification. From my experience, sound quality greatly benefits if amplifiers, DACs (and whatever else one has in the signal chain) are designed with linear power supply. Together with eliminating grounding issues coming from USB or ethernet devices, this is a major factor towards size/ depth of the soundstage and spacial coherence of the sound perception.

Dear iFi, next time you decide to link to your new product, please warn us if something red is about to jump at us. Almost got blinded by that red devil

Fully understand what and why you are saying, most quality amps and dac use such power supply. Can only agree. The A90 is one of the excellent exceptions, it is genuinely amazing in all aspects of SQ and one of the best matches for the Arya, especially when you consider its price.

I have nothing bad to say about A90. We all have different tastes and requirements from the music reproduction. However it is wonderful that today we are spoiled for top quality choice at relatively affordable levels.

You need two of these, one for left and the other for the right channel. Braid them yourself to make it into single cable. When you order you can color customize the cable marking to your taste.

If you want more fancy looking cable go here and contact Victor sending him above link and he will do cables for you already braided. You will also have more color options. He is using German Viablue cable and Neutrik connectors; workmanship is impeccable. You will of course pay more, but price is still reasonable.

Hey thanks for the recommendations. I won't be using the first option. I did consider the second option but I also came across these cables

which would come with neutrik dual 1/4 inch TRS balanced cables already. Thoughts?

Considering that it leaked several weeks ago I thought that everyone knew about it, but sure, will do better next time :D

Most of the interference in the USB signal is caused by the PC.

That's true :L3000:

The only thing I also use is an ifi iDefender 3, and I'm absolutely satisfied with that.

Yes, it's a nice affordable way to break ground loops and optionally provide clean 5V for USB. A very small thing, but it saved many setups :)

I heard of that company. Looks they know what they are doing and they have very positive reviews.

Hi guys, potential Arya buyer here, I'm wondering if anyone tried Arya with tubes? Any impressions on the pairing? I'm trying to figure out if it is a good idea to pair the Arya with my DNA Starlett

My tube amp is Schiit Valhalla 2 and Arya sounds wonderful paired with it. The common thinking is that the OTL amp should not be used with low-efficiency planar cans, but Valhalla 2 drives Arya effortlessly. However, I must add that my DAC can output 4V on HL gain setting. I see Don designed Stratus with a 2A3 tube specifically for planar headphones. Maybe contact DNA and ask him.

I use my Arya with the iFi Stereo 50 tube amp. I think it’s pure magic. Just the right amount of warmth, more than enough power (7W or so), big bold bass (even without using the iFi Xbass feature), very ‘3D’ soundstage.
Then again, I don’t have much to compare it with. A friends’ Mojo sounded thin in comparison. My dad’s Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear definitely gives it less slam than the Stereo 50.
