HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

Since getting my AP2000ti and Z1R I haven't been using the Arya much and not at all with the iFi Neo I got a little while ago. Tonight I got them out hooked them up to the A50s and Neo and started to relax and it reminded me just how good this headphone really is. My new setup has them sounding better than ever and I think the musicality of the Neo gives the Arya a bit of added flavor that I really enjoy. The soundstage and imaging are more coherent and you can pin point every little sound because the separation is so good.

I'd like to know what the difference is between the Arya and the HE1000 V2 since they use the same driver and have the same specs from what I've seen.

Can't speak to the V2, but I owned the HE1000SE for quite a while. The Arya has less microdetail and soundstage depth, but a smoother, more pleasing tone with the same bass quality and soundstage height/scale. They're also more comfortable than the HE series or the Susvara.

Overall, despite the difference in technical performance (which is significant in audiophile terms but subtle in absolute terms), I enjoy the Arya just as much as the HE1000SE.

Agree on the tonality. Arya and Susvara are better here than the HE-1000SE.

Hi
Someone checks emotiva ta 100?
Emotiva has a very powerfull output that can drives planars like he6 easily.
Emotiva allows use energy of speakers output to headphone output. 12 w at 33 ohms.
There are info about this in headfi an another forums.
Cheers

Hi

(...)
I would like to kown if anyone cecks rme adi 2 dac with aryas.
(...)

Cheers
I am using RME ADI 2 DAC FS with Aryas from several months. Handles them well even in low power mode. You are not able to go very loud then, but still more than average. In hi power mode it shows awesome capabilities of both devices. Sub bass rumbles, headphones shake on my head when playing and yet no distortion. When I used Aryas with Schiit Asgard 2 and Marantz HD DAC-1 it was nothing like this. Just buzzing when pushing hard. With RME it is super clean. Definitely my last DAC/AMP. Small, powerful and full of brilliant functions like crossfeed and PEQ. Makes it really versatile. And it looks nice with display set to Amber colour.

Personally I use following settings with Aryas and RME:

Crossfeed: 1
PEQ:
G: +2.0dB F: 90Hz Q: 0.9
G: -5.0dB F: 125Hz Q: 1.2
G: +3.0dB F: 270Hz Q: 0.7
G: +2.0dB F: 2.0kHz Q: 0.7
G: -4.0dB F: 4.0kHz Q 5.0

It gives some deepness and precision to instruments, ads even more crisp to vocals while making treble slightly less harsh. Also I had hours of fun by tweaking Aryas with RME's PEQ. Really awesome stuff.

Coming from speakers, they sound so much better with a little too much power vs the distortion of not having enough.

It depends on speakers

Some niche stuff (i.e. efficient widebanders into a transmission line) doesn't need or like too much power.

Sufficient power to get "loud enough" is one thing but having enough power on tap for all of music's dynamics is totally different.

I agree, dynamic contrasts in music are important. The more effortless they are, the better.

Would it be right to describe Arya roughly as HD800S but with great bass + sub-bass emphasis ?

I used to think the exact same things and often used many of the same audiophile words to explain differences between unit a vs b...until I tried listening to gear blind.
Have you ever tried listening to amps without knowing which one you’re listening to?
It is a very humbling experience.
I would do blind abx testing but I'm pretty sure I'd miss the holes...xD. Plus my results would be skewed because I drink too much coffee...

What they said above more power does not mean sound better.

I had an Audio-GD FUN and while it powered the volume on the Arya well it sounded like crap. No control of the driver mostly lifeless sounding.
Schitt Heresey makes similar power to the FUN yet it breathed a ton of life into the headphone.

You don't need to spend a lot to get good sound (the Schitt is a $100 USD) but it needs to pair well.
Agreed, more power doesn't equal better sound quality....but not enough power does equal clipping, distortion, and broken sound, in many cases.

I'm speaking in the most general terms. System synergy is important, from source to transducer.

Been burning my v2 set in with brown, pink, and a touch of white noise (and music). They're progressing well. I'm getting the wider and more layered mids and vocals, deep and warm but textured bass, and detailed but not too over the top treble. They sometimes seem to disappear soundwise as cans. Top to bottom an enjoyable listen.

If we're not being too much into small things, then I agree with you :)

Please clarify that last statement. I'm of the opinion that I shouldn't buy a $500 power cable for a $200 amplifier - as an example.

I agree that system synergy is very important and by "small things" I meant exceptions that exist in this hobby.

As for cables twice as costly as components, I agree. But I also happen to know several people with very costly setups and money in cables well above the rest :)

Hello, I am considering getting these headphones. For those who have had them a while, have you had any issues? If so, how did Hifiman deal with them? At this price, I was hoping to get headphones that will last me for years but I am a little wary of QC issues...
