In Manhattan for the afternoon (near Grand Central) and wondered if anyone has any ideas for local shops to visit. I'll be back here soon so late responses helpful too. Thanks!

do a search... there have been a few threads listing good nyc hifi shops.

if you want to stay near grand central, there are two or three decent shops on w.45th between 5th and 6th aves... including harvey and sound city.

innovative audio is on e.58th between 3rd and lex.

cosmophonic sound is up on 1st ave at 84th.

lyric hifi is on lex at 82nd/83rd

I think Harvey's is something like on 44th or 46th between 6th and 5th on South side closer to 5th. They have all kinds of hi-fi stuff including Grados, Senns, etc.

48th East of 7av is chock full of various musical instruments shops most of which carry headphones including musician monitors.

Forgot, both are Midtown locations in proximity of Times Square. Harvey's are pretty close to Grand Central.
