Originally i wanted the HFI-2200 but after reading a few posts ive changed my mind to the HFI-780 and DT770/880 maybe even 990.

Ill be listening to/producing trance music out of onboard audio, but may upgrade in the future to a soundcard (If you have any recommendations for a soundcard thatd be great)

Ive read that the HFI-780's have very harsh highs, is that the case? Because i cant stand harsh highs. But i am fairly new to high end audio so that may just be the opinion of someone who has a very experianced ear! lol

*Also the velour pads catch my eye, ive read you can get the beyer pads and put them on the HFI-780, but it may alter the sound for the worse?*

Even though i have a strong bias for Beyer phones, they will not sound well unamped AND through an onboard.
Can't comment on the 780 since I haven't heard them or read about them.
Take a look at the AD900, they work well on almost anything that has 3.5 mm input
