Your ears will break-in. It might take a week or two, but they will become less sensitive! At first everything hurt - bowls, comfies, HD414s...now nothing hurts!

Nick, if you're thinking about sending them to Larry, consider the C-Pads. The Beyer velour pads solve the problem quite nicely, plus you can tune the bass by unplugging the ports, if'un you want to mess with it. I think the C-Pads are a great solution.
I have no experience with bowls. Sounds as if they would work well too, and are no doubt the less expensive way to go.
I would venture to say that getting them Darthed with C-Pads would be a decision you would never regret. The ones I just got are sweet and I'm liking them more with every session.
