hey audiophiles, where do you store such a massive library of FLAC files besides a computer?

First: stop wasting money and space on 'hi res' audio.
Second: do some blind tests to see if you can actually tell the difference between flac and mp3 (either 320 or vbr0), chances are you can't.

Congrats, you can now store 3 times as much music.

If you have internet access (e.g. you want to listen to music at work on a computer), Google Play music will allow you to store 20,000 tracks online for free and stream them. I think it supports up to 320kbps (it will convert flac automatically for you before uploading).

I can hear difference between MP3 and Hi-Res...  But then I can't hear any difference between 16 bits and 24/96 or 24/192 !

--> is it normal for a pair of 50 years old ears ?

Anyway, "by security" I download 24/96 instead of 16/44 when available, but NEVER 24/192.

I assume what you mean is you can hear the difference between mp3 and lossless (FLAC)?
Of course you can't hear the difference between 16/44.1 and 24/96 (or 24/192) - you're human and share the same limits of hearing as the rest of us.

my engineer friend told me the same

even though 4tb would be awesome it doesnt fit in my pocket (unless its 2 SSD's) but, i just want a good portable high capacity player, i dont get how there can be SSD's of such a big size and no one putting one of those in a portable.

anyways, my idea is to get a Fiio x3 portable music player and get 2 64gb micro sd cards, and when i dont want to hear the music from A-O i switch to the other micro sd and hear artists which start from P-Z, basically change between 2 64gb cards pretending i have 128gb. do you know if i can stick out the micro sd in a x3 player without turning it off?

With a DX50 you could hook up an external HDD. (welp that was a late response...)

Up to how many gb hard drive can you hook up to the DX50? Does anyone know, or does it not have a limit on size. Because there are some pretty small and portable HDD that can hold up to a couple of terabits.

Not 100% sure of the cap, but I do know the MicroSD cap is theoretically 2TB.

But does the dx50 have enough power to power an external hdd?

Likely not, but a self-powered drive might work. With the right two-headed USB cable you can hook it up to a powerbank. Or just use a 128gb or 256gb stick.

I tried this morning on a 500gb (almost full) self powered hdd... I did not dare to scan into the library but just browse using file browser, it took 3 minutes to list out the long list of folders...the color of screen went lighter (from orange to yellow) u can understand the stress that incurred.. Wouldnt recommend it for people.. Usb stick works ok except for large files... High res type files or flac image.. I have not narrowed out if it was caused by the memory stick or the firmware went over the buffer to read from OTG.. Pls manage the expectation on otg
