Nixie tubes, for the youngest, where the first electronic "mono-position" displays. Before that, only mechanical numbers or neon little lamps in binary order forming the numbers on a computer painel... like a Borroughs B 500s. Old stuff...
Only some 15 years after that, Texas Instruments launched the today's display formed by seven LED segments. Dates to be confirmed...
