Actually foobar2000 under wine can work pretty well, you can integrate it as the default player, use global shortcuts, etc.
I've used it for a long time but now it seems audio on wine is borked on Fedora 12.

Either way, this thread can be a lot of help, it's pretty much a step-by-step guide.
I recommend you wipe you're wine install clean (rm -rf ~/.wine) and follow the tutorial

is a normal installation of foobar on wine, right?
