Mine doesn't have a green ring - when I ordered it I didn't have 3 options (I don't think the green ring was introduced initially

).

I e-mailed Herbie's, and got the following reply:

"Sorry to hear you've had problems with your grungebuster.
What's
happening is the clamping puck is not releasing the mat/CD quickly
enough.
With most drawer mechanisms the CD drops from the clamping puck and
the
drawer begins to open simultaneously. If there is even a split-second
delay
with the CD dropping loose from the puck, the drawer will begin to
open
without the CD positioned properly, causing a jam precisely as you
describe.

This is the reason for the green clamping-puck release, to assure
that the
mat/CD drops instantly from the clamping puck. The
"release" is simply a
very thin die-cut piece of polyester adhesive tape.

There are two solutions. One, you can mail the mat back to Herbie's
Audio
Lab and we will upgrade the mat with the green clamping-puck release
and
mail it back to you, no charge. Or, you can place two small pieces of
Scotch
tape on the mat to accomplish the same thing. Use the clear tape, not
"Magic" tape, because it sticks much better. Just place a
strip about an
inch long next to the hole in the middle, and an identical piece on
the
opposite side of the hole. This will keep the clamping puck from
holding on
to the mat when it is supposed to drop.

Warm regards,

Steve Herbelin
Herbie's Audio Lab"

I've put on some thin strips of tape and it's been OK since then...

The CD spec doesn't include another object stuck to the CD. Can't fault the player.
