Which headphone should I get?:

Sony 888
Sony V6
Senn 495
Grado SR60

I listen to classical, rock, you name it. This headphone will be used primarily with my portable cd/mp3 player. I already have the Sony EX70s, but I want something that is open and sounds better than them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can we assume that "Relp" should actually read "Help?"

I agree with Jude. The SR-80s are a great set o' cans for the money. The 60s are fine too, but you may find them a bit lacking in bass.

I'm not sure how much your limit is, but for under $100 I'd go with the Grado SR80 too.

For rock, not much will beat Grados, SR-60 or 80, at any price level, other than better grados.

But i don't like their colouration in classical music, instruments don't sound as real as other headphones. So i think the 495's are better suited for other types of music, especially classical.

Rep! Rats Right! Rooby Dooby Doo!

umm...any more suggestions? I'm seriously leaning toward the 888s because they're more in my price range...although I'm thinking of the SR80s...

I have to agree with thomas -- I love the SR60s and 80s for rock, but I really can't listen to classical with them.

But I thought the 495s really needed an amp?

If you're considering the 888s, have you considered the Koss KSC-35s? IMO, the 35s have much better overall sound than the 888s, and do sound good with all types of music. Plus they're much cheaper than anything else you listed

And for using portably, they simply can't be beat!

if you have an amp and can afford them, I'd go for the AKG K401's. better for classical than grados, but they can still rock if you need them too. Not as much impact, but still very enjoyable.

I say go with Grado SR-60s/80s. If the 888s are in your price range, these are too. They will be MUCH more pleasing than the 888s - those are unusual cans which have mixed reviews.

For instance, some (coughDUNCANcough) hate the 888s, while I love(d) them. I had to give mine away tho - specifically for the Senn 495...which requires an amp.

Since you mostly listen to rock, and your source probably has a low-power amp, go for grados...get the most expensive one you can afford. If you can swing the 80 - get it. But if you can't, you still won't be disappointed.

I'll throw my vote in for the Grados, they should sound really good w/ no amp.

And BTW, Scooby & the gang rule!

lol Coolvij... to say i HATE the 888s is a little strong

I am comparing them to full size cans (888 vs similarily priced Grado SR60 for example) where they pale in comparison

But... in terms of "Buds" they are good, I will agree... after all I've had mine for six years, theres gotta be some kind of love there, or i'd have sold / burnt / eaten (

) them

i agree completely... they're good considering that they are designed as small earbuds for weak portables...

But I also think they pale in comparason with REAL headphones, they get a few things right (midrange is great), but overall they don't have the neutrality or accuracy of other (larger, less efficient, more expensive) audiophile headphone...

attnet: I didn't listen to the Grados, myself, but I think you could safely go that way. If you want an alternative, try the beyerdynamic DT531 - I like it a lot, and it doesn't need an amp, either.

Greetings from Munich!
