I'm pretty new to the game. I have an AudioTechnica ATLP 120 that I've had for a bit over a year, a Laptop, and a pair of Sennheiser HD 598. Here's what I want to do: I want to purchase a receiver as well as a pair of bookshelf speakers. I've been doing some research but I feel like I don't know where to go from here. I want to connect my laptop and my turntable both up to the same receiver. Here's some speakers I've come across:

a receiver includes a tuner(radio), do you want that ? or just an amplifier?
 
what is your budget?
 
if low get Q Acoustic speakers,and a used Nad/Arcam integrated amplifier with a MM phono stage,
also an Audioengine D1 DAC between your laptop and amp.

I really like stuff like NPR and BBC world service so yeah. And for the receiver my budget is around $500 but I can go up a little if it's really worth it.

Is the laptop for listening for music only (2-channel) or also for movies and gaming (surround sound)?
 
The websites AVSforum & AVforum are more dedicated to receivers and would be good forums for asking about receivers.
Might find the best receiver bargins in the $300 to $350 range.

The laptop is for my school work but I listen to music on it as well. And thanks for the info.
