Ok this is really weird but I've finally noticed that my K701s play the directional
sound backwards.

In other words if I set a song to pan left it plays out of the right earcup and visa vera.

I've had them since around March 13th but have only recently noticed as I've been letting them burn in off and on while I use some of my other phones.

What should I do? Is this a common problem?

Well, first of all....

1) Do you wear them correctly? the cup with the wire is the left.
2) Did you check with other headphones if see there's problem with your amp or source?
3) If all things are ok, I'd recommend you to talk with AKG or seller.

Ah you were right, the simplest solution wins.

For some reason the cable that I had running from my soundcard that connects the rear ports to the headphone and microphone port of the front of my computer flips the audio signals, switching left with right for everything. Darn thing.
