(shameful bump)

Updated list ...

Can Afford Now :

Dayton B652
Polk TSi 100
Audio Bronze BX1
Behringer MS-40
Gemini SR-6

Need to Save a Bit More :

M-Audio BX5A Deluxe
Alesis 1M MKII

It seems these are the only monitors I can justify for the price ... the rest start nearing and exceeding R10k

I'd go with the Monitor Audio BX1 over the Dayton and Polk. You might also see if you have Wharfedale Diamond's locally. They are a British speaker.

Some of those other speakers you have listed are active and don't need a separate amplifier/receiver.

I'd recommend the NHT SuperZero 2.0 along with the Sherwood RX-4105 stereo receiver. It's a very nice combo and you can always add a sub woofer of your choice in the future or whenever you feel it necessary. If you wouldn't mind a 2.1-channel computer audio setup, I'd have no problem recommending the Dayton Audio B652 along with the Dayton Audio DTA-1 T-amplifier. Throw in a sub woofer such as the Dayton Audio SUB-1000 10" sub woofer and add in an external digital-to-analogue converter such the FiiO E10 and you would be set.
