Hi here is my 2008 rig..

192/256/320kbps/alac > nano 4g > jena cryo lod > LDMK1+ > dt880 (03)/dt990pro

im quite happy with the setup above..

but for 2009, ive upgraded to:

5.5gen iMOD > OIMP/Tefflon VCaps > LISA III LLP > ______

as showed from the blank... i need a headphone.. could anyone point me to something which will complement well with my rig? ive got the followings in mind

markl d2k/d5k/d7k | recabled hd650 | k701 | hd800 (should i wait for this?)

i have an expandable budget, but i would like to just get 1 headphone.. i have no specific preference for it to be either opened or closed as long as they sound phenomenal out of the LISA.. my music genre = anything but pop..

help~

Get a good headphone that isn't too extraordinarily expensive and will still fill your needs extremely well. I'd say, get the Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000s.

At this point in time i think the 2000s might be overkill. But if he's willing to upgrade in the future, they'd be a fine choice

So, what's wrong with the DT880/DT990 out of the Lisa III for you?

nothing at all. just that i 'think' i could get more out of other cans such like the hd650, k701, esw10, and possibly the hd800.. but i can make up my mind on which one would benefit me most..

I'll advise you not to bother with the HD800 for the moment... knowing the way head-fi works Sennheiser can take the HD595, give it a new paint job, call it the HD900 and some in head-fi will still claim it to be the bestest headphone ever. You're better off waiting for the hype to cool down before investing on a $1400 phone, you might not even like the Senn house sound.

Perhaps you could tell us more about what you are looking for in comparison to the DT880? More bass? More engaging mids? More forgiving? Less highs? Less/more analytical? More/Less soundstage? More speed? Without knowing all that the K702/SA5000/AD2000 are probably your best bet as the most natural progression from the DT880.

I would get the 701's while you wait. Then while your waiting you can try out different amps. If you start looking for an amp for the 701's you'll have a head start for when the 800's finally start shipping.

More soundstage sounds like a 701. I love how my 701s sound with live acoustic and jazz.

Id say give those a shot as well whilst you wait for the 800s. But as an end all possibility give the hd800s a try, but you may want to pick up an end all amp like a b22 or the like before that.

Ive been considering to get the b22 for quite sometime now.. im just waiting on the Lisa desktop to be completed by triadaudio so i can get the impressions on it before i make a choice..

But that is for a desktop setup. im now gearing up for a portable (read transportable) setup. so currently im just gonna use my Lisa III + vcaps + imod as my transportable gear. spent over 2k for those 3 babies including cables... sighhhh it hurts!! but the dose of sound i get right after soothes the pain quite nicely.. its like drugs i tell ya~~ haha

the k701 is in my radar and theres one now on sale in the sale section.. but then, after reading through headfi, seems like i might get more joy out of a markl d5000/d7000.. ive started a WTB thread looking for any possible sellers willing to part with their cans... lets see how this goes...
