Arghhh! I'm trying to get WinAmp to play 24/96 audio on my Audiophile 2496, but looking at the Audiophile's control panel, the sample rate drops from 96 -> 44 every time I start playing music.

I remember a long time ago, I found a setting buried somewhere that caused Windows to automatically downsample to 44KHz. Changing that fixed the problem, but after moving the card to another machine, I don't remember where that setting was!

Any Audiophile 2496 owners out there remember how to get this working?

Are you sure the source file and/or winamp is outputting 24/96?

If all you're using is MAD plugin @ 24bit setting then it would be 24/44 so it is right to see 44.1 in the control panel setting.

After a few more frustrating hours, it seem that if I set the card to 96KHz and reboot, WinAmp will play at 96KHz, but will refuse to go back to 44KHz. The same for going the other way, very strange. Guess I'll just have to put up with that. Thanks for your help.

Forcing the setting doesn't work. It's supposed to be automatic. The sample rate is set by the audio program's output. In this case, you'll need winamp to output 24/96. Download the directsound output plugin w/ SSRC here:

This is for Winamp 2.x

I forgot this one, there'a an ASIO 2.0 output plugin also by some Japanese guy. You can try this also:
