I am trying to remove the pads which I was able to do on my 518's but the pads on the 558's are a much softer material and seem much more prone to being ripped. They seem much to fragile to take off. I feel if I pull any harder they are going to rip! Any tips?

I found pulling on the pad was not the best way to remove the pad.
What you want to do is use 4 fingers on the inside of the ear pad to lift off the pad.
In other words you want to get 3 or 4 fingers underneath the pads, from the inside of the cup.
