Hello. I just bought a marantz pm6004 amplifier. I plan on buying a pair of kef q300 speakers to match aswell. I already own a pair of dt990 pro headphones. What I want to be able to do is use the headphone out on the marantz amplifier for my headphones while gaming late at night but I was wondering how I would get surround sound sent to the amplifier for the headphones. I know that a sound card could give me surround sound but I read somewhere that to get surround sound you would need to connect the amplifier and sound card via spdif cable. Is this true? I am not sure if the amp has spdif connection.  And also would the titanium hd be a good sound card to get? I was looking at the xonar essence stx aswell but the only thing this seems to have extra is the headphone amp which i don't think I would need if I plan on using the headphone out on the marantz amplifier which I heard was good enough. Any advice would be appreciated.

With the Ti-HD (Titanium HD), all you would need is some RCA to RCA cables running from the Ti-HD's RCA outputs to the RCA inputs on the Marantz.

You could also get away with a refurb Titanium (non-HD) for $50 at Newegg, run a 3.5mm to RCA cable

The Ti-HD would sound better (better DAC), you might get a good low price on a used Ti-HD on eBay.

Hey. Could you help me out again. I have my just gotten my titanium hd today and I'm trying to watch movies with surround sound with my dt990. In entertainment mode there doesn't seem to be an option for cmss 3d or any form of simulated surround sound (only seems to be available in game mode). Is simulated surround enabled by default in entertainment mode. I just want to know if I have the settings right for the best sound. The source movie file I am playing has dts sound

Thanks for the tip. I actually figured it out my self. It seems thx true studio pro is what gives you the surround in entertainment mode and cmss 3d is on games. Cheers again for the quick reply
