im lookin to buy either the senn hd 595s or hd 600s i have found both on ebay the 595s for $259 and the 600s for $200..

Even though the 600s are more expesive to buy in the shops and seem to be the better buy i dont know a real lot bout amps and the extra accessarys in order to make them sound effient the 595s sound much more easier for someone like me reading that its not as nessary to have an amp but it seems stupid to pay more for a less expesive pair but im willing to if its goin to make life alot more easier for me...

any help or opinion on this matter would be most appreciated...

hi.

i have done a lot of research on this lately and I have decided that the HD595 will be the first hi-fi headphones for me (I currently use the HD485) for these reasons:
1) It doesn't require an amp
2) Good for gaming
3) Good value
4) Comfortable
5) No Sennheiser veil

If you want the HD600 expect to spend a few hundred on an amp

Thats all good, of course, but ignores the fact that HD 600 is a VASTLY superior headphone. If you on a budget, better go get some HD 580, which are almost the same as HD 600 and far better than 595 too.

What kind of music do you listen to? Any particular reason you settled on the HD595/600? The HD580 mentioned needs an amp as well, something the OP doesn't want. Have you considered Grados or Denons? What kind of sound characteristics are you looking for?

i listen to a wide variety of music so i would preffer somethink that would be good for all types of music sennheiser were my first choice because so many ppl have recomended them to b the best grados i think is alot harder to get in aus...i had been lookin at the sennheiser site and reading other forums thats how i came down to the 595 and 600 but i will have alook at the 580s now but like u say they may also require an amp... any suggestions of any other models of headphones which would be good for wat im lookin for im willin to pay up to $300 but i dont really want to spend any extra on amps and stuff... ?

the 595 would be a nice headphone for you if you really want a decent sounding sennheiser and are dead set on not using an amp. the 600's are a much nicer set overall but would absolutely require an amp for them to be worth the money you pay for them. i have the 580's and i enjoy those far more than the 595 that i used to own. either way you go, you might want to consider your purchase an investment as they both are fairly pricey. if you're willing to stretch your budget (as i believe you stated that you are), i would seriously consider getting the 600's and an amp over the 595. the 580/600 just sound that much better...at least to my ears. best of luck to you.

X2. Having owned the HD595, and owned the HD580 and HD600 before I would get the HD600. Let's put it this way, I am getting a HD580 and HD600 again. I should be receiving both this week. I wouldn't purchase the HD595 again, as the HD580 and HD600 are far better IMHO. The HD580 are the same as the HD600, but with different grills. Also, the HD580 and HD600 is far easier to drive than the HD650s, but an amp for the either HD580 and HD600 would help. I used my HD595 straight out of my Ipod and I thought it was pretty good, but no where near as good as the HD580 and HD600. Good luck and sorry bout your wallet

The 595s are a great headphone...period. However, when I moved to the 650s, it was a new world. At first I liked the sound of the 595s (more upfront, and brighter), but once I got used to the balance of the 650s I was sold. The 595s dont need an amp, thats about the only thing going for them compared to the 580/600/650s. The latter 3 beat the 595s hands down. I would do it right the first time...I didnt and lost some money, but its your choice. Likely you will want something better down the road, and will probably end up getting the nicer 600s/650s. Just my thoughts. I hope it all works out for you.

P.S. I have the Mini³ high performance with my 650 ($100 amp), and it works amazing with the 650s. Maybe think about that as well. See ya

I've owned HD595 for 1+ year, loved them so I gave them to my good friend as gift, and I use HD600 now. Although many people on this forum think HD600 is much better, I still miss my HD595 A LOT.

After using HD600 for 6 months (almost exclusively, sorry to my DR150... ), I did a brief comparison in a local headphone store last week. I still think the HD595 is much more versatile , for they perform better than HD600 in portable scenarios.

With 300+ amplification, you may make HD600 better than HD595, but with HD595, you can enjoy great music with (almost) any portable devices and is much easier to get good sound.

I'm not a big fan of my HD595's either. However, I always change my mind right when I'm about to list them in the FS forum. Their neutrality is worth something... I suppose...

1. HD600 > HD595 even unamped.
2. Bass performance of HD595 is generally disheartening, unless amped.
3. HD600 will scale later on. HD595 - not as much.
