Hey guys. I'm pretty new to the audiophile scene. I purchased my first pair of high-end headphones about 8 months ago- they were the Grado 225is. They sound great, but I think its time to explore a little more. I listen exclusively to rock music, so keep that in mind. I'm deciding between the Beyerdynamic DT770s and the Sennheiser 598s. Since I have no way to test them out or listen to them, I'm relying on you guys to help me make a decision. Here's what I'm looking for:
-Warm, realistic sound
-Considerable detail; I want to be able to tell all the instruments apart, which can be a little difficult amid all the chaos of rock
-Energy: lots and lots of energy, that's good at performing at high speeds.
- Preferably a closed-back.

If you guys have any suggestions of your own, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

The Beyerdynamic DT770s (closed) are more in need of a headphone amplifier compared to the HD598s (open).
The DT770 will have more thump in the bass then the HD598s.
I'm sure the HD598 will have a better sound stage and treble then the DT770.
What source(s) will you be plugging the headphones into?

If you want some extra bottom and top

Ultrasone HFI 780

if you want to experiment
(i.e. I haven't heard these newly released phones, but
I'm about to pull the trigger on them based on the reviews
and the dealer's money back refund policy)

My computer, which will be playing FLAC files.

Using the built in sound or an add-on sound card?

Ultrasones (are known to be fast with good bass) or the HD-25's.
