Hi everyone
I'm upgrading my source and I've been thinking of getting a NAD C542 or a Cambridge Audio Azur 640C. I know they are players which are regularly recommended as "best bang for buck" on head-fi and elsewhere
But - for about the same price I can get a used CDP. It's an Audio Analogue Paganini MkI - OK, I know that no-one here knows anything about this player, but please take it for granted that it cost about $1500 in 1999 and got very good European reviews at the time.
I need some advice about whether digital technology has advanced far enough that a mid-end player like the NAD would have caught up with a better player from five years ago. I guess that the transport and power supply would still be better in an older high-end player, but the digital circuitry might be falling behind now??
If anyone could give me some advice or suggestions of what to look for in an older player I would be very grateful...
