Yeah, especially with my cd3000s with their great soundstage,I felt like im right in ther, sitting still on chair and being interrogated. It even made me feel very nerveous,as if I was a real killer. It gets worse when he talks me in the ear,and when he exhales it seems like I can feel the real air blowing in my ear.Unfortunately the acting is bad,and inspector sounds like a drunk idiot.I hope soon all movies will have this kind of soundtrack in them - that would be great! The horror movies would be really horrifying.

Yes, I think that was the best part too. The hairs at the back of my neck was standing as it was like he was talking directly near the back of my ears.

First, I'd like to say that I think that "high quality soundcards are not suitable for gaming" is, imo, a totally wrong affirmation.

Just recently I bought a Terratec WEX 24/96 and since then I have only played two games... Max Payne 2 and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2.
The experience (sound-wise) with both was as good as it gets. Each side of the headphones acted as one of the character's ear (perfectly, you can even do lots of moving around and testing, incredibly accurate) and the soundstage was ABSOLUTELY convincing.
Previously, I had an Audigy 2, but I never really liked EAX... when there was Aureal it was something else(which, in fact, provided me with the experience I currently get with modern games and stereo audio outputted to headphones)... but EAX, nah, not convincing at all for me, never was ... plus the drivers issues and the lousy audio ouput... big no no.

I dont know what are you talkin about,EAX (EAX3 and EAX4)are the only real gaming sound engines for today, everything else is nowhere near niether in quality level nor popularity. The Max Payne 2 uses EAX thats what I know for sure. The other cards do EAX too, only through the software,it decreases ur system's perfomance-and doesnt sound as good.Audigy2 is the best gaming card, and its not a poor sounding card either, just not very musical - its hollow and clinical, but detail and signal-to-noise are very good.Using software sound processing is fine, unless u're playing something like Doom3 wich barely gives u 20 FPS average as it is,and loading the CPU with sound processing on top of it just turns it in the horrible slideshow.

Hmmm...interesting. I have just tried the samples linked here. While the examples on the first site mentioned didn't give me any 3D-impression at all I found that third degree-sample quite convincing. Only problem is that everything seems to take place behind me. No front imaging at all. The same with the other samples on that site.

On the other hand I use Dolby Headphone for watching movies and it works like a charm. Only yesterday I've watched some asian (japanese?!) horror-movie (A tale of two sisters) that gave by far the best sorround-effect with DH I've ever had.
In regard to games I have to say that Max Payne is indeed very cool. Sadly there don't seem to be many games with that good a sound-engine. Guess I have to play Hitman 2 again with the DieselPower-plugin from the AM:3D-site.

BTW: I mostly use Ety ER-4Ps. Can't get much more detailed sound I guess.

Korean, not Japanese.

Was this a region 3 disk?

I've only seen the american version of "The Ring" so I don't know how to compare. How 'bout this: I liked both.

I've been playing SOF2 since the demo came out a couple of years ago. I started playing with a 2.1 setup. When I got a roomate who had some old Sony headphones I figured out the difference. I bought some Grado SR60's and have been using them since.

Most of the time you can spec people and tell if they are using speakers... it becomes quite obvious because they don't hear the footsteps. With my headphones I can hear people running a long ways away. Above me, behind me, I can hear the shots coming and immediately tell where they're coming from.

Maybe it's because I was using 2.1? I'll never know because I don't use speakers on my PC anymore.

I would go with the 280's. They are well isolated so any ambient noise will not really affect your gaming... i.e: you can hear peoples footsteps perfectly if you play CS
