Help my friend decide on what earphones to get for a$50

I'd recommend the Meelectronics CC51. They have plenty of bass presence that has good texture, but doesn't bog up the mids and highs. Has plenty of clarity and speed throughout the range. I'd say they also sound slightly intimate and aggressive with great impact so I'm sure he'd be impressed. The nozzles are sorta big though so make sure your friend doesn't have small ear canals. You can get them for ~$45 right now on amazon. I still swap between them and my yamaha eph-100 for DnB from time to time.
