I dont remember the shaft length. It must have been pretty long (relatively) to reach the front panel from the board...
 

 
 
Its the longer barrel with 8 pins on the bottom (2 rows of three near the front and one row of two at the back)

I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread and helped me figure out what I needed.
 
I especially want to thank MisterX. The mailman delivered three Alps pots to my door today and my soldering iron is warming up as I type this.
