I would suggest Oumou Sangare's Oumou. I would also suggest Tshala Muana's Mutuashi. Finally, I very highly recommend Les Amazone de Guinee's Wamato. All three are Sub-Saharan African.

Jintara Poonlarp from Thailand.

Vera Bila, Iva Bittova and Ida Kellerova from Czech Republic; Zuzana Homolova from Slovakia; Warsaw Village Band from Poland.

Cesaria Evora from Cape Verde.

Soooo many great singers…maybe try:

Mayra Andrade (Cape Verde)

Gal Costa (Brazil) - start with "Sonho Meu"

Fairuz (Lebanon)

2x on Tshala Muana (Congo)

2x on Dulce Ponte (Portugal)

Mariza (Portugal)

Some of Bebel Gilberto's singles are nice (like "Aganjú"); not crazy about her albums as a whole, though.
