Hey, I am having a hard time deciding upon my second headphone purchase, I currently have the MDR-V6s and a portable META 42 in the mail specs are:

-META 42 PCB
-Nichicon 470uF 35V PS caps
-1% metal film resitors
-OPA 2132PA or AD 8620 OP AMP(socketed)
-WIMA 6.8uF reservoir caps
-Elantec 2001 buffers (5)(socketed and stacked)
-Biased to class "A"
-Alps Blue Velvet Pot
-Machined aluminium knob
-Switchcraft mini jacks
-High quality mini toggle switch
-Blue LED
-2x9V battery power
-Black serpac H67 9V case (4.94X2.75X1.28")

I listen to a lot of techno and occasionally some other instrumental stuff but its mainly techno/trance. My budget is around $200 or less.

I have looked at the Beyer DT 250-80s, Senn HD-580, HD-600, Grado SR-225.

I've heard that the sound from the Senn hd 600 and 580 are somewhat laidback. Will this affect the music I listen to in a negative way?

All comments are appreciated, thanks.

sr225s are pretty damned good phones, haven't heard dt250s, and i'm not too big of a fan of the big senns.

now all you need to do is pick up the courage to throw the v6s in the trash.

if open/closed doesn't matter, I'd have to recommend the grado 225's. The 580/600 just doesn't do it for me for electronica/trance/etc. Since you're used to the V6 harshness, I think you'll find the 225's just right (change the pads btw).

Haven't spent enough time with the Senn's to offer any words there, but do like the V6/225's combo (see sig).

Beware though that if you have any problems with the V6's highs they'll seem worse after getting the 225's. Took some time for me to readjust.

Get some Grado's and let me know how they are. I want to get a pair someday. I want to go from KSC-50's

to SR-325's

Man, i didnt except such overwhelming support for any particular pair of headphones. I guess I will be getting the grados shortly. I'll research thethe pad upgrade as well. I've heard that it improves comfort and soundstage, but ill look more into that.

Does it comes with the 3 different pads, or do you have to buy them?

The 225's are very in at the moment. Last month it was the Beyer 880's. Month before the Sony 3000's. Month before that Eggos or something. That all said, as oppose to many threads, most of the posters here have experience with the 225's so that's a pretty good sign. They're a fine set of phones.

Are the highs on the 225s as harsh as the V6s?? I just received my portable meta42 and was listening to some hans zimmer (i like that type of music a lot too in addition to electronica/trance/techno) with the V6s amped and the highs were extremely harsh and shrill, almost enough to make me want to take the V6s off! Everything else is more clear and precise with the amped V6s, the bass also improved a lot and sounds more punchy.

Can someone atempt to explain how the 225s sound in relation to this?

If the highs will seem sound worse after getting the 255s as blessingx said, I dont think i will be able to tolerate them and I am staring to feel iffy about getting them. If not the 225s, how are the 580s?

Thanks

I meant the opposite. The 225's handled highs (among other things) so much better than my 80's, that the V6's problems suddenly became more obvious and irritating.

I just meant that if you go with the 225's, be prepared for your V6's to sound worse.
