hey, something i forgot to mention

i own a pair of Shure E2c, how does the sound compare? just curious...

anyway, i hit the checkout button on the MS-1s the other night... hehe... shouldnt take them too long to get here seeing as i live less than two hours (maybe even only an hour) from the addy listed at the bottom of the alessandro site... maybe i should have just driven there?

Dont count on it. Waiting times can be really long sometimes, depending how fast Grado can assembly them. They have their own line to take care of too! But then again if Alessandro has one in stock, then it shouldnt take long.

Ultrasone 2500 (open)/750 (closed) go for about $260. Lots of bass and very nice highs. Sennheiser 580 (and then check how to easily mod them to 600 level or better) is $130-150 online. The Senns are a truly great value, but you need a decent amp to run them properly. I have both and prefer the Ultrasones.

Many folks love Grado, but the sound signature was too harsh for me short of the RS-1 at $750 or GS-1 at $1000. The only way I could know that was to listen to them. I stumbled into the Ultrasones via the process I have described to you, and love them Your taste (because that's all it is) on Grados or Ultrasones or Senns may vary from mine or any other poster's.


Now that you have a lot of leads, start doing searches on the various HP and get a sense of the sound signatures. Try to find a local store that has some of your narrowed selection. And/or do what many of us here do is to zero in on a couple of likely candidates and make a selection. If you can buy used you can often resell for about the same price you paid if it doesn't work out. If you buy new and must sell, expect about a 20% loss (but a gain in experience of knowing what you like/dislike).
