I bought Micca Speakers, amazon speaker wire, a Lepai amp, an optical cable, and an analog to digital converter. My question is how to set it up to my TV?

I have an LG 42" tv and all it has is optical out. Here's how it is hooked up:

Laptop to TELEVISION through HDMI
Optical cable to analog to digital converter
RCA cables from converter to lepai amp
Lepai amp hooked up to both speakers.
Converter and lepai hooked up to power

I have no sound and I don't know what I am doing wrong? Tried looking in TV settings no dice, computer is set to use TV, TV should be using the optical out. It looks like everything is hooked up correctly, what am I doing wrong???

You need a digital-to-analog converter, NOT an analog-to-digital converter!!

Doesn't the TV have analog outputs? Just use those directly into the Lepai.

Can you provide links to your amp and converter? Also do you mean laptop to converter instead of laptop to computer? Windows or MAC? What software/media player are you using? What model TV do you have?

The optical cable carries a digital signal. The Lepai needs an analog signal. The signal is going from the TV to the Lepai. So, that is Digital-to-Analog.

The other way to do this is to feed the analog audio directly from your PC to the Lepai. If you plug headphones into the PC, can you hear the audio and still see the video on the TV? If yes, then connect the Lepai directly from the headphone jack on the PC. If you can't hear the audio on the PC, then see if you can configure the audio playback device to allow that to happen.

If you do want a DAC, you can use this one:

Thank you for your reply... I think I will order a DAC now. That one is too much though...Don't want to spend more money on a DAC than my speakers cost haha or else I would have gotten better speakers.
