I've been following along; I have similar problems.

I've got alsa running (without any interference from onboard audio) but cannot get ANY analog sound to work. I can reliably get the SPDIF to work.

I'm running Ubuntu/Breezy (which has Alsa 1.09).

I've tried this .asoundrc (which is comparatively recent):

Desperate to try anything, I tried the last post on this ALSA page:

It sorta works. The black output labelled "Back" works, and it sounds good. There's still something strange with the clock/speed thing, which seems fixable with some "plug" stuff.

But the killer is that there's no volume capability. In fact, muting even Master and/or PCM has no effect on the output.

Perhaps for some others, this will be good (if you're running through a headphone amp or whatever) but I'll be needing to control the level.

Any tips? If anyone needs any diagnostic dumps, I can try and provide...
