Hello, i travel a lot for work so i spend a lot of hours in airports, planes and hotel rooms.
I often watch movies/shows on my laptop so I'm looking to elevate this experience somewhat.

I would like to hear your recommendation for a portable setup with cans that get me close to the "cinema sound".
I would like it all to come in at sub $3k but there is some leeway...

I have been looking a little bit on the Sony MDR-Z1R, but I'm not sure what i need to run it 100%?
Anyways, im very open to other suggestions!!

Thanks!

The Audeze Mobius is terrific for cinema with its DSP and 3D settings.

apple airpods max is also a consideration. works best with ipads but also pretty well with pcs. the active noise cancellation gives that intimate movie experience.

If the 100dB/1mW sensitivity is accurate it wouldn't take a lot of power to get that loud, and even a laptop can get you to hearing damage levels. The question is more of how clean the output is, not how much. On that note, something like a Fiio Q3 Mk2 has more than enough power, and is clean enough, unless you want even less noise with something like a Meier PC Step but depending on your bags this being thicker can be a concern vs the Q3 that can fit into an accessory pocket on some bags.

I usually just download movies from 123movie to my laptop. Or I watch them on my flash drive. It depends. I watch a lot of different movies on the road. I can advise you a couple so you don't have to look for a long time and rest:
1. "lay low in Bruges." When to watch: moving between small European cities. Unlucky hitmen Ray and Ken arrive in the Belgian city of Bruges and await further instructions from their superiors. While Ray is saddened by a failed mission and the murder of an innocent child. Ken takes in the sights of the picturesque Belgian town. Nothing seems to portend trouble. But of course, trouble happens.
2. "The Perfect Escape." When to watch: heading for the warm sea. Sydney and Cliff decide to spend their honeymoon in Hawaii. While hiking, the newlyweds meet Nick and Gina. They are ready to travel together. The atmosphere of a pleasant adventure is disturbed by the news. That a man and a woman are serial killers on the island. Without five minutes the comrades begin to suspect each other.
3. "Midnight in Paris". Woody Allen's charming comedy about a hopeless romantic who wants to live in the 1920s of the previous century. With a girl he arrives in Paris and is transported back in time. After meeting his now deceased idols he finally realizes he belongs to that era and wants to stay there forever.
Dood, i think you might need to reread the op...

I can't find complete specs ie the sensitivity but if it's listed as "iPhone compatible" I wouldn't assume power would be a problem since they're very likely to make it a high enough sensitivity so somebody trying it at a Best Buy or similar store wouldn't immediately just go for the Beats because it's louder.
