This has been driving me mad for months. I've done searches and come up empty handed. Surely, there must be a solution.

When I first launch foobar, if I run a search (for anything, including items that exist), I'll get an error popup that says:

ERROR (foo_input_std): referenced file does not exist

And it won't be just once, it's a whole screenful. Then of course my search results pop up.

What's the deal?

I assume you have the database enabled? Go into the foobar preferences (ctrl-p), and select "Database" on the left. Select "Remove dead entires (slow)". Wait a while for it to finish (it may take some time, depending on the size of your collection). Run another search, see if it's fixed.
