I currently use Sennheiser's HD558. However there is no bass for movies. I'd like a headphone that makes me feel the trucks roaring, shots firing, ect. I've tried the Beyerdynamic DT770's but the midrange was non existent. Maybe I'm just too used to the HD558's. I did prefer the upper range of the DT770 over the HD558's. If I could find a headphone that is similar to DT770 highs and lows with sennheiser HD558 mids, that would be perfect. I've come across Audio Technica A900x, but those pads are leather. Would AD900x pads fit right on these non open A900x's? Reviews mention they're great for gaming, and the bass is nice. However, looking at the graph of the A900x, the midrange seems to be similar to the DT770 but slightly better. Do the A900x have a V shape sound as well? Is it as bad at DT770? The wing system also seems weird, I do have a Bobby's World head so sliding down shouldn't be a problem. My price range would be no more than $400.

I do prefer the sound of my ATH-A900Xs over my DT770s.
I added Hifiman HE Velour ear pads ($10+shipping) to my A900X headphones.

Oh my, wasn't expecting a reply at all. Here you are, with my planned choice lol. I see you also have HD558, how would you compare the HD558 to the A900x with velours? Also how about the T70. I see some for sale right now I may buy too. You have both the headphones I plan on getting. Are you a wizard?

The A900Xs make good music headphones, have more "life" to their sound, then the HD558s.
Also the A900X will bring more "life" into movie sound
But I would not say the A900Xs make better gaming headphones then the HD558s.
I really only use my T70s with my Yamaha receiver, for Blu-ray movies and AT&T TV, i live in an apartment and the T70 being closed block out the "local noise".
Plus the T70s allow me to really hear detail in audio.

I would say to pick up some used A900Xs for now, get the Velour ear pads, then maybe next year put a bigger dent in your wallet.
