Hey everyone I have been reading these forums and trying to work out how I go from using an android phone and wireless Sony earbuds to something more specialised.

I am looking to purchase a DAP and IEM combo that I can use for the gym and other times walking etc... where I am getting confused is do any of these DAPs play lossless music from any streaming services as I havnt purchased any music in forever due to apple music, Spotify etc... (I know Spotify isn't hifi yet but tidal and qubuz are?)

I have used wired iem before from Shure and know the quality can make a big difference.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a setup around the £1000-1200 mark that would cover the streaming and a decent ish set of items it would be much appreciated.

I'd put the money into a phone with a 5,000ma battery, Apple USB to 3.5mm adapter for power, and the 7hz Salnotes Zero:2 IEM with USB player Pro to bypass the android sound stack for full power and best quality.
I do that and you can stream or play music, and just one device to charge you carry anyway. They sound fantastic setup that way.

This sounds good I kind of want to go more premium than these IEMs, the app you suggested looks good I hadn't heard of that before. Thanks.

Some DAPs have limitations in respect of playing from streaming services, some can’t stream at all and others resample due to the Android system.

I have a FiiO M11 Plus and a Shanling M3 Ultra and both stream bit perfect CD quality and high resolution bit perfect from Apple Music, Tidal and Qobuz.

Do you mind me asking why you habe both of those being quite similar in price, wpukd you recommend one over the other? What kind of iem are you using?

The Shanling is much smaller and lighter so is more convenient for travel and out walking.

IEM - Shanling ME700, Sennheiser IE600, AuR Audio Neon Pro and Campfire Solaris Mercury awaiting delivery.

I previously had Letshuoer S12, Shanling MG600, Penon Fan 2 and Dethonray Tender 1.

Both DAPs do a very good job with all IEM I have tried

Hi,

Just because you mentioned the gym, have you considered the iFi GO Pod with an IEM of your preference or even bundled?

When it comes to streaming services, please know that Amazon Music Unlimited does not work with UAPP. But you can use Qobuz, fine

Think I'm getting close to making a decision on the Shanling m3 ultra and Sennheiser ie600, then deciding which streaming service to switch to as currently gone back to Spotify. Not sure if the Shanling will stream apple music in hires or will be better using tidal or q?

The Shanling M3 Ultra runs Apple Music perfectly and streams hi res bit perfect.

The IE600 sound good from the M3 Ultra.

Just be aware the cables the IE600 come with are not great, you might want to budget on a new cable.

The recessed MMCX on the IE600 means a lot of conventional MMCX cables won’t fit. I have used the GUCraftsman cable that is specifically made for the IE series and an Effect Audio cable with the MMCX add on fitting, it isn’t designed for the recessed IE600 fitting but works perfectly.

Check out the IE600 forum here.

Man, there's about 100 ways you could go with this. Personally, I'd grab one of the following: Shanling M3 Ultra, or the iBasso DX170 - both have excellent streaming quality and battery. Then, depending on how much $$$ you have left, I'd grab one of the following IEMs: Final A5000, AFUL Performer 8, Noble Focus Mystique, Final ZE8000, and maybe the TRUTHEAR HEXA. Depending on how you want to do it, you can grab two. I hate working out with a wire, so I'd use the Focus or ZE8000 (there's a V2 now also) for working out (ZE8000 if you're a runner) and the A5000, HEXA, or Performer8 for working out, walking etc.

This is where the water gets murky for me with wireless buds, if I do go with the M3 ultra and a set of wireless bids say the nobles ze8000 is that going to be a bog difference from the sound I get currently from using a decent phone and Sony WF1000XM4? I thought maybe incorrectly that you had to go cables to get the best sound with a dap? This is a minfield so appreciate all of the advice I just want to spend the money I have the best way. If the sound from wireless buds from noble or something else would be comparable to the senheiser wired or similar level then I would consider them. I jist want a decent uplift in the quality of the sound from my current setup!

I would say that both the Noble and the ZE8000 are a step up over the Sonys. That said, everyone has a different opinion. If you're cool with a wire while working out, and you're cool with used IEMs, there is a slew of IEMs ubder $1k that are excellent. Campfire Audio makes a bunch, and the Ponderosa might just fit your budget. Obviously, personal preference and budget are what play in here. Do you have a sound preference? Bassy, vocals, Instruments, etc.?

I prefer a more bassy profile because of the music I listen to however my taste is quite eclectic so needs to also be good all round which I have no doubt most of these iems are. Another factor for wearing them at the gym is the weight and comfort, I'm kind of OK with wires and if upgrading to a dedicated player makes sense to go the whole hog. Can always pair my sony buds if I need wireless at a push. Why do you recommend the Ponderosa?
