Hi,

I am fairly new to speakers as I was a headphone guy till now. I recently scored a deal on some used Monitor Audio BR1's on ebay (77gbp inc. shipping) for use in my university dorm. I am not really sure what else I need to get the system set up. I own a laptop (which will be used a the source for music) and a Nuforce uDac 2 for now which I use with my headphones. The seller said that he's going to include a speaker cable but I was wondering, will I need a separate amp for the speakers? Will the cable fit to the uDac? I guess I have no idea at all what cable is used for speakers so excuse my ignorance

I am a bit confused so any help would be greatly appreciated...

Here are the specs for your BR1

Long story short : for PC Audio/nearfield peeps have run less efficient, cheaper USA Dayton B652s @ 87dB with something as low cost as the Lepai TA2020 Tripath amplifier - seen some go for about 13quid these days with PSU

For cables u need speaker wire and an RCA patch cable from the DAC's RCA output to amp

Thank you for your answer. So I guess I definitely need an amp after all. Thanks for the recommendation, I will have a look around...

Last thing, the speaker cable that the seller was talking about, how does that one look like? (a link to an example would be enough I guess, sorry

How the speaker wires look like would depend on type of termination. Mostly peeps use bare wire or banana plugs these days - why don't you ask/check with that seller? Not all amps can accept banana plugs though
