If you haven't gotten into Tool yet, you must. Get Lateralus. Now.

on the Weezer side of things..

Jets to Brazil
Hey Mercedes
Sunny Day Real Estate
The Promise Ring
Sense Field
Get up Kids

These will get you started into the world of "emo" - which Weezer, along with SDRE, Fugazi and Jawbreaker sort of unintentionally had a hand in starting..

also listen to Opeth.

get the album Still Life for starters (its sort of heavy...)

if you are scared of the heaviness, get Damnation. 100% non-threatening, great cd

I'm sorry but Damnation is a horrible over-produced mess at a "slow, emotional" album, stick to their other stuff.

Try the following albums:
Afghan Wigs - Gentlemen
And They Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Source Tags & Code
Wilco - Being There
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
Fugazi - Argument
Soledad Brothers - Voice Of Treason

I saw Opeth live over this last summer. The live version of Damnation sounded EXTREMELY accurate to that of the cd. Over-produced? Explain the perfect reproduction live.

If you have a library near you that carries Stereophile then you might want to refer to the section each month called "Building a Library".

Each month they recommend a variety of music. I recall an issue a couple of months ago in which they profiled Swedish bands and "The Hives" was one of them. One of the guys in the Hives is married to one of the women in Sahara Hot Nights which was also recommended in that issue.

That might be a good way to start finding out about bands you hadn't previously heard of.

I'd pretty much list the artist you did, sans Weezer and Pearl Jam (like em, just not a big fan).

I just bought a bunch of CDs, based on related styles of music. I had been diggin' on Shoegaze for a while, which it sounds like you might enjoy.

Good shoegaze artists:
My Bloody Valentine
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Boo Radleys (i just got Wake Up! though in their post-shoegaze period, i love it. A variety of style in the one album. Stuff that sounds very Radiohead, some stuff that reminds me of Queen or Yes, and other songs which draw from their shoegaze roots)
Ride (check out Nowhere, classic shoegaze)

The Igby Goes Down soundtrack has a good selection of shoegaze and related sounds, check out some of the artists/songs on the album and explore allmusic.com

I'd also recommend checking out some prog rock. Do a search in the forums, there are many threads on prog rock albums. (I recently got Yes- Fragile, and I love it)

Possbly check out Creedence Clearwater Revival, good classic rock Folksy at times, but I have recently reacquired the Cronicle album after I broke mine - some great music there.

Oh, the Who. I almost forgot. I only have Tommy and a comp, so I can't recommend a particular album, but others can probably chime in.

If you like Bob Dylan, you might like Nick Drake. Good British folk rock.

Postive Trip hip-hop is my taste. Arrested Development
A Tribe Called Quest
Mos Def (the album Black Star is GREAT)

I'll chime in more later, I'm interested in what others recommend, I think I'll listen to the recos as well.

I didn't see anyone mention The Beatles.
Lennon/McCartney are the two most prolific songwriters in music.
that's all I have to say.

Hey guys thanks again for all the Suggestions. It will take me seemingly forever to check them out.

I also checked out John Coultrane, while I liked him I did not buy a cd of his yet.

Their you go just a little update.

If you aren't into classical (almost no exposure) and ever get curious, drop me a PM... I could offer a few suggestions as somewhere to start with the most "accessible" yet talented stuff that anyone could enjoy.
