Hello there!

I was looking into buying a new pair of hi-end headphones (closed or open) for mixing and recording/casual listening and I dont really know where to start. So I need your help. I currently own a pair of Sennheiser IE80s iems, Shures SE215, TF10s, and a Vsonics GR07, . Also, a Fiio E10 DAC/AMP and an E5 AMP.

As you can probably tell, I really like bass. But I also dont like sacrificing mids and im a little more forgiving with the treble. What would you guys recommend? Of course im looking for something better than my iems. I used to own a pair of V-Modas crossfades and Shures SRH750djs. And all I can say is that those headphones left a bad taste. Which is why I only own IEMS. Since im willing to give headphones another try, I want something to blow me away.

btw, I listen to alot of genres, primarily electronic music though.

ps.
People mention headphones are always better than IEMs (in the same price range). Is that true?

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely look into it.

I'm just curious though, is there such thing as a headphone that reproduces sound like being live at a music concert/rave?  With really good impact on all the frequencies?

I own the TF10 and IE80. Going off memory (which is not always accurate), I'd liken the IE80 to an HD 650 with slightly more bass and a bit less treble. The TF10 is a thinner sounding iem, somewhere between a DT 880 and DT 990 in frequency response.

If you're willing to invest in a starter dac/amp box like the NFB-12 or Audinst HUD-MX1 and a mid-fi headphone like the HD 650 or DT 880, I believe you'll find full size headphones to be more true to life then iems. You can get more detail for the dollar with iems, but full size headphones are generally better at reproducing soundstage and delivering realistic bass.
