Hi all

When I first got my Canamp around a month ago, I noticed there was a very noticable buzz/interference - not from the unit itself, but through the headphones (K701). It was at its loudest with the volume all the way down. As you turned up the volume, the buzz got progressively quieter until around the one third mark where it was no longer there. Turn it up to 95 - 100% full power and it came back.

I had the Canamp plugged into the same electricity outlet as my PC, so I thought I'd plug it in somewhere separate, just in case. And hey presto - problem solved!

Well, tonight I used my Sennheiser HD280 with the amp and the problem is back again. Strangely, it is fine with the K701s still.

So is the amp faulty? Does anyone else's amp do this? Should I return/exchange it?

Would appreciate any help.

Many thanks

Max

I've no problem like yours. I know it's a hassle but I would return it and get a new one.

I think you might be right there......

Incidentally, as I have said in some other posts, I was not blown away at all by the Heed and find it hard to tell any difference between it and the headphone amp on my EMU 1820M. Just wondering now if this fault or any other fault may also be effecting SQ as well......? Hmmmmmmm!

You have been posting the same dissatisfaction w/ the Heed in a large percentage of the 54 posts you have made in Head Fi. If you are so unhappy return the unit.

First up, you should be a politician the way you quote numbers. 5 or 6 out of 54 (if that!) is hardly what I would call a "large percentage"! In fact, if we say 5 posts relate to my dissatification, the percentage would be roughly 11%. So get your facts right mate.

Second, This thread has nothing to do with the SQ of the Heed but rather what I consider might be a geuine fault. Have you actually read the thread?

Third, my line of thinking in post #3 is that if the interference is indicative of a fault, perhaps the SQ issue mentioned in my previous post may be indicative of a fault also. So I'm actually trying to say that perhaps the Heed is a lot better than I have given it credit for, and the difference between my Heed and the EMU may be a result of a fault with the unit. In essence, I am speaking up for the heed there and in potnetial favour of it.

Please note also that I still have the Heed. I want to give it a fair amount of burn-in time and opportunity for me to make my comparisons/judgements, buy a decent IC to see how that changes things, etc. etc. So it's not like I'm dismissing the SQ of the Heed. Rather that I am questioning it and taking my time to come to an informed decision.

So I conclude that you either have shares in Heed, work for them, or have a Canamp rammed far up enough your arse to make you so irritable. Otherwise, I cannot for the life of me understand why you continue to respond to any comment I make regarding the Heed which isn't a glowing report.

If you think that by calling me a politician I will feel insulted boy do you have a lot of learning to do. I did a quick query and you have at least 9 out of 54 posts criticizing in some way the Heed. If 17% out your post is not some kind of persecution then what is. For example:

Not only are you totally of base in trying to call me a shill that it is no even funny. The Heed CanAmp was an amp that I owned over two years ago and which in my opinion was a fantastic unit when paired w/ an AKG K701. I still do since I have had the opportunity to listen to it since I sold it.

If the best argument you can come up is to use foul language and project your desires to have stuff rammed up your backside it only demonstrate what a looser you are. So go back under the rock you crawled under.

Edit: Welcome to my ignore list, and FWIW your baseless accusation (shill) and "... rammed far up enough your arse ..." has been duly noted and reported.

I had the Heed CanAmp. The problem is caused by radio interference. The unit picks up radio signals from nearby stations. I was able to listen to one station pretty clearly.
I could not find a solution for the problem. The unit is very decent sounding but this problem is very very common.

You can
a) Find an other spot for the amp. Maybe some in some other room the amp will not pick up signals.
b) Return the unit. And get another amp. Getting another Heed will not solve the problem I think.

A friend had one that seemingly picked up interference from his laptop wireless card. If he moved the Heed a few feet away from his laptop, the distortion disappeared. It was only apparent while he used the wireless function of his laptop. He still has it, likes it, but keeps it away from his computer.

Best flame EVER.

EDIT: Anyway, it's sounds like you're getting interference from other devices (computer, radio), so try moving it around in your house.

EDIT 2: Beaten.

At the risk of opening up old wounds, I will say that I noticed an abnormal buzz on my nearly new Heed very recently. It occurred with the volume at 0 up to about 9 o clock with no music playing. Taking a steer from this and other posts about dirty power, I tracked it down to a Musical Fidelity VPSU powering my DAC. Not saying either device is in any way faulty, but I suspect the Heed is particularly sensitive to some EMF. The MF XCAN 2 next to it gets no such noise from the same kit.

Wafting the PSU around my kit rack caused the buzz to shift in intensity and moving 2 shelves up and across to the other side pretty much killed the buzz. Sorted but a little frustrating. Still, an easier fix than the guy in my local Hi fi shop suggested which was rewiring my flat. That does need doing, but more from a H&S perspective than an audio one.
