HeAudio Jade and HE1.2/1.3: how many are using them and are you happy with them so far?

Mine never hiss.  If they all did this, no one would keep them.  Frankly, I kind of wonder about the seller in the referenced situation.

The seller in question is a trusted member of head-fi and a friend of mine. I believe him when he says they worked perfectly for him. It's quite possible the problem could have arisen in shipping to Houston, as the humidity here is terrible. I've been keeping them in their wooden box with a few silica packs and the bias charge drained.

When I connect them to my amp after leaving them like that over night, the hissing noise is gone. In about 30 minutes of being charged the hissing is back to its full extent. It's actually in BOTH channels I noticed. The left is a hissing noise. The right is a bubbling noise. It's faint enough to where it's only annoying when music isn't playing.

I'm going to try leaving them in with the silica for a few more days. I keep the bias charge drained after each use. I'll check for any hair as one of the previous posts suggested. Finally, I'll see if the noise still persists using a normal bias jack

If the hissing is still there, I'll get in touch with Fang. I love these headphones, but they're quickly becoming a huge pain in the ass.

I didn't mean to impugn your friendly seller.  I leave mine plugged into my GES on or off without ever unplugging them and mine just don't hiss. I grew up in Houston and went to school there so I assume you have AC.  If so I would bet humidity indoors shouldn't be a problem.  Good luck with your pair.....

Yeah, my other stats don't have any problems. My house has AC and is kept as dust-free as I can keep it. I'm thinking that if any humidity damage occurred that it happened in shipping. It's also possible damage could have occurred due to UPS' handling of the package, as when it arrived it was really beaten up. Normally I wouldn't think anything of it, but the Jade does seem especially fragile relative to other headphones.

At this point, I'm at a loss. I'm going to stop speculating and just contact Fang if the problem is unresolved by next week. He should be able to tell me what's wrong and hopefully fix it.

I've lost count of how many PM's I've received about this issue so it is very real.  It's also very faint and age of the listener is most certainly a factor here as HF response of our hearing goes rapidly down hill after the early 20's.  If' you have been up and close to the Jade drivers (which I have) then there is no wonder they have dust issues, the mesh supposed to protect the drivers is way too course to hold anything out let along dust which is attracted to the charge on the diaphragm.

As for the pair in question, shipping them could have dislodged some particles causing this but the amp certainly isn't at fault.

As in compressed air?  That would be a very, very bad idea as if there is even a tiny gap in the film somewhere then it will be torn in two.  I usually dismantle the drivers completely when fixing stuff like this but you could also try to gently blow on the drivers (with something like a lens cleaner or something similar) from the outside and see if you get lucky.  The problem here is that you'd ideally want to get close to the drivers but the Jade isn't an easy headphone to open up, let alone get back together.

Well . . .I am now a proud member of the HE Audio JADE's club, having just purchased a Jade (formerly owned by Tyrion and Jigster).

Looks like I'll be working overtime, but also listening overtime shortly.  This latest purchase also now puts an eXStatA to the top of my wants list.

After hearing that they are no longer in production, does anyone know exactly how many of these (now legendary) final production Jades are out there?

Back to my LCD-2s until the Jades arrive.

Wow, it's nice to see my pair is still kicking. I still say the Jade in combination with a BH was one of my favorite rigs, right up ther with the Sr-Omega. The O2's are one of my least favorite cans. If I was to consider another headphone rig beyond one using the JH13, I would look for a Jade or SR-Omega. I haven't tried the new orthos for any length of time to judge them, so those might enter into the formula as well. Anyway, enjoy the Jades.

Spritzer,

No no, I didn't meant a can of compressed air. I was mainly referring to blowing on it. The Jade is definitely not something I want to try to open....

Good, after one of our members took a vacuum cleaner to his SR-007 and destroyed the drivers I felt it was a good idea to make this absolutely clear.  There is so much bad advice out there and following it can indeed destroy the drivers.  That's for instance why I have a SR-Omega sitting in customs here which I'm going to try and salvage after the owner tried somethings that weren't a such good idea...

I'm considering recabling my Jade with silver wires.

Audiocat when you recabled JADE, did you replace the bias lines as well as signal lines? It appears that the bias line needs not to be changed since no signal is going through?

Thanks!

..the wire alone cost him $250 I think.  I don't know what kind.  I should have also tried his Stax wide PCOCC cable, but I forgot.

wire was probably between $250 and $300, then add extra teflon tubing for insulation. I won't tell you which wire I used, but with that kind of bulk park price # there really isn't that many different options.

Stax wide is about midway between the stock PVC and the silver teflon.
