Hearing Protection

Cause I play bass in a band and we`ve rehearsals/gigs at very loud volumes, I use hearing protection. It`s an IEM which cut`s of all the sound at linear base.
It`s also very handy at concerts. You still can enjoy the music,but softer. It`s just like you turning down your amp. From 3/4 to 1/4.

The few times I played in a concert band in front of the trumpet section, I wished I had hearing protection. So I got some custom-molded 25 decibel lowering earplugs designed to retain sound quality.

For $10 you can get a pair of Etymotics ER-20s which have a 13 dB noise reduction rating (Etymotic's own clincal testing shows up to 20 dB of hearing protection when you're wearing them properly). They can be found online (including sponsers Headroom and Todd The Vinyl Junkie) or at professional audio stores (like Guitar Center), sometimes under the brand name Hearos.

Yeah there are a lot of that kind of stuff, but I have/want to hear the sound as natural as possible. I don`t want to hear any difference in tone.

Just want is softer, this thingie has a special filter. Which does it for me

The Elcea ELACIN ER 20S is actually made by Etymotic and is the ER-20 that was referred to earlier.

The ER20 does that: decrease sound level with minimal tonal distortion.

I also have the ER20's and I can't wear them

They won't keep a seal in my ears, and they even work out of my ear after a while.

I have to use foam EAR plugs, which do not attenuate flatly.

I use my ER-20's in Marching Band. Got them from Westone for 10 bucks, they seem to have the cheapest shipping too. I love these things. I sit right in front of the bass drums in the stands, so my ear is like right at the epicenter of the bass being thrown from one of them, the lowest one, right behind me. Man, without these things, my eardrums would break! Good, flat attenuation that this adjustable by inserting more or less.

I'm using similar custom molded hearing protection during live concerts, in da club, at work and in the cinema (way too loud nowadays).
When I think about it the whole civilization is way too loud for my liking.
I've got these thingies from my audiologist, and they were damned expensive, equal to 90 US$, but they are worth it.

The company I work for had custom molded hearing protection made for us. Unfortunately, they had one of the clerks make the ear molds, instead of spending money for a professional. My pair never did fit right.

So, I don't know what it's like to use custom molded hearing protection like you have.
