Heard Bose headphones today for the first time...

I really, really do not enjoy the Bose OE. I had to take a pair apart for a friend of friend when a channel went dead, and they're ridiculous. The drivers without the pads are astonishingly tinny, and with the pads they just sound muddy. They also have PCBs in each earcup that apparently fail with some regularity, which sounds fishy. I'd just as soon steer clear for any price, let alone $150 CDN (which was $150 US not too long ago).

I don't think people are saying they are garbage in general. They're just horrible for the price range.

Personally I've tried my share of Bose back in the day and they haven't been completely bad. My main contention with them is that although their Bass is rather punchy/weighty, not only is it uncontrolled, it overwhelms the music. It's a quantity over quality basically. I can't say I remember how the mids or highs were, so I'll reserve my comment on that.

There are just too many headphones that do better, so naturally a community of audiophiles will show their disgust. Audiophile is the key word here. For the general public, the SQ of Bose is good enough.

Yes I love the Triport On ears. I can not believe they hurt your ears. They feel like the softest girl hands caressing my ears.

I have ears that stick out more than average so the pressure makes them sore after about an hour. I will never buy on ear headphones again for that reason.

The problem with Bose isn't that they sound terrible overall. They simply sound terrible for the price. Sure, the Triports sound OK, but so does the KSC-75, and you only pay $15 or so.

I have KSC75 and the Bose headphones I listened to sound much better than KSC75. Anyway, I am going back on Monday to that store because I told a friend about them and he is actually interested in buying them. I will listen to them again and ask if I can listen to a pair on a non-demo display. I will also try to get the price down if possible.

It's the other way around for me, I still feel the around ear triports are much better than the on ear triports. Might be it's just me then. Oops, wrong place for this post fellow!

Yeah, it's not that the Bose are horrific, so much as that for the money there are things that sound light years better. They sound better than ipod headphones. That's about it.

If the Bose were priced like similar products like the 40 dollar Panasonic or Sony's I wouldn't care, but for 150+ dollars, its ridiculous.

The bass on my AD900s has way more impact that the Bose. Just cause the bass is loud and lots of it doesn't mean its tight, fast and well awesome.

My first "real" headphone experience was with Bose. I was walking through my local Target and there was a display with some Bose cans to listen to. I made the mistake of trying them and I was blown away. Mind you the headphones I was using up to that point were total and utter garbage. So I looked and noticed the $138 price tag and could not believe it. I vowed I would never pay that much for something like headphones. I went home and got on the internet to search out better prices for the Bose and to do a little research and that led me here. Soon after finding this place I ordered my DT-770's for $150 and was blown away again. Then over $500 later I am in my current situation...very happy but very broke...lol...and now I can not even remember what the Bose sounded like or what I even liked about them. I won't bash them because if nothing else, they got me here and helped get a really good pair of headphones on my head.

Denon AHD-550 were the headphones that got me here on Head-Fi.

The Bose store displays have got to be EQ'd because they never sound like that outside of the store. I'd bet money.

Since joining head-fi I sold off my Bose IE, OE and QC2 that I bought within the year before I joined. Even $8 Marshmallows walk all over the Bose IE. My AD900 walk all over anything they ever made, and my ATH-ANC7 walk all over my old QC2.

Yes, and I realized that after I posted, thought I was posting in the headphone forum. I made a comment about it as soon as I realized my mistake. I said I will leave it here if no one else minds, or a mod could move it. You are the first to complain about it being in the wrong forum so relax.
