As others have, I'm limiting this to those headphones which I have used or listened to extensively:

best performance by a home based headphone: AKG K340

best performance by a portable phone: Grado SR60

most comfortable performer: AKG K501

best performance by an earbud: no vote

best performance without a headphone amp : Grado SR60

most attractive headphone: Sennheiser HD600

best all-around performer: AKG K501

most controversial performer: AKG K501 (are you kidding me? Wanna start a flame war? Just let someone utter "they have sorry-assed bass" and see what happens)

and if I might suggest another category...

the lifetime achievement award: AKG K240M

First we have to establish what is meant by 'performance'.

This could mean anything. Does it mean that, for example, the RS-1 did a better 'performance' of Kind Of Blue than the HD600 did with Eminem?

What about best supporting headphone? Like your old pair, which you turned to after discovering your new ones suck?

Will this be televised?

Will we see talking headphone owners acceptance speeches or will the camera pan to the seats which will be occupied by weird looking headphones that are applauding, or sitting with other headphones that used to belong to other people?

Or will the headphones actually speak for themselves?

"I'd like to thank my owner _________ for hooking me up with a great amplifier, the _______ (applause) and also to my dealer___________ for having faith and confidence in me and allowing me to break in and lose my veiling before handing me this major role (Telarc 1812).

Or "I'd like to thank all the other nominees, I am so pleasantly shocked and surprised, especially in light of my apparent midrange coloration"

Is this what the intent was?

If not, then this topic is merely a different approach on the the "what is the best headphone'" topics, no?

Merry Christmas to all!

lol!!

i can just imagine what a bunch of headphones applauding looks like. whup whup whup whup!!

looks like the r10 is going to take away the "most controversial performer" catagory. either the r10 will show up wearing fur-trimmed purple satin robes while "god save the king" plays, or he'll send an american indian woman to decline the award and make a speech about native rights. we'll see.

meanwhile the sony v6 will be downing pints with the focus pullers and sound guys in the back, then later will rough up an academy producer for cutting his poetry reading from the broadcast.
