So I am new to this whole audiophile business. I have my own recording studio set up and I recently got a pair of AKG K701's. I spent the past couple of days playing music through them to break them in, but that's a different story.

Here's my question:

I have a Presonus Firestudio Project that I use as my Recording Interface. It has a headphone out obviously, but I am not sure how well it does the job compared to a dedicated headphone amp. I have been doing alot of research and I think that the Headroom Micro Amp is looking like my best bet, but I'm not too sure how necessary the Micro DAC would be if I already have a $500 interface running through firewire. Will I be fine with just getting the Amp and connecting it to the headphone out on the Firestudio, or is the DAC a huge step up from this?

Thanks in advance,
