The only difference I can see on the Headroom site between the
old cosmic amp and the new one is the gain switch. Is there
some sort of cicuit upgrade with the new model? Different types
of caps or resistors?

This is concerning the non reference upgrade model.

i had a chance to compare my older cosmic to the newer version at the last meet near Sacramento. the only difference i noticed was that the older version presented a slightly darker sound....barely though! i also think some of parts are different, not better, but simply different. the gain switch does help a lot in keeping the black noie quite quiet! sorry i can't offer any more insight about the parts. i personally liked the older version better because of the slightly darker, warmer sound.
