The Beyer DT231 seems like a light comfortable phone, so why does my jawbone ache after about 10 minutes?

What other phones hurt your face bones or head?

i did not really notice untill i got better phones, but my old sony "computer-cans" make my ears ache something awfull.

i dont play them especically loud. they actually squash/pinch my ears.

admitedly, they are on the lower end of the headphone epectrum. but mneh.

I found the HD650's did this to me until I extended the headband a notch on each side. Most of the time, I like the band to sit snugly on the top of my head as I like the secure feeling but in doing this with the HD650's, I felt like it was exerting a good bit of pressure in and around the TMJ. When I extended the band a bit, the sensation disappeared and I've been in bliss ever since.

I had that problem with the HD 280s, too. I think it was a combination of squeezing and the size of the cups themselves--I'm small, and even with the edge of the can pushed back as close as possible to the front of my ear, the cup still pushed into my jaw. A pair of over the ear headphones, i think from JVC that my sister had did that to me, too.

weird.

I experienced something very similar with these cans.

My DT770 pressed against my jaw when they were new. Took a couple days to sweat on em and get the pads more contoured to my jaw. I have A huge HEAD though. I have to stretch my 770 to about 80%

It sucks having a big head, my ears are far back too. Sunglasses are an imposability

H#LL look at my baby in my avatar... He was premature by 6 weeks and his head aint much smaller than my MDRV6.

Try bending the headband back a bit on your Grados. You can fine tune the fit and it will pretty much stay that way. I find I like a little less pressure with the flat pads but with the bowls, I need to have the pads pressed in more to get the driver a bit closer in order to avoid the shrieking top end.

On topic: thanks to ultrasone's death grip I think my head look slimmer now.

Senn HD280 -- but of course!

The 280s also win the Iron Eyball/Migraine Award for the most eye-popping vise grip.

(I have to admit, tho', that unit-to-unit variation can be so extreme that there may well be some units out there that are soft and gentle on the head... who knows?)

It was a bit of a subliminal thing to have him acquire some Grado's.

i thought i had a loose pair of 280's, but when my sister put them on, she thought they were too tight. they did fall off her head when she looked at her feet, so they couldn't have been THAT tight...

Kind of related, but do canalphones makes anyone else sick here? I got a pair of Sony 51's real cheap just to try out the whole in ear thing and from the very first few seconds I put them in I was quite queasy. I guess my ears need external air or sound or something to maintain my equilibrium. Just wondering how common that is.
